Summer Camp Descriptions

Annie Jr. - June 8th-June 20th - $600/2wk

It’s a Hard Knock Life this summer at Imagine Performing Arts Center!

You asked, and we listened! Back by popular demand, our exciting two-week theater intensive returns with an unforgettable, full-scale production experience designed for both performers and technicians. In just 10 camp days, students collaborate to rehearse, design, build, and present a fully staged musical. This fast-paced, high-energy environment mirrors the excitement of real theatrical productions while intentionally building confidence, teamwork, discipline, and practical stage skills that students can carry into future performances and beyond.

Camp runs daily from 8:30am to 5:00pm. The first and last 30 minutes of each day are dedicated to guided warm-ups and interactive theater games designed to strengthen performance skills in a fun, low-pressure setting. This flexible window also supports families who may need early drop-off or pick-up. Official instructional and rehearsal time begins promptly at 9:00am each day.

Our first summer intensive features Annie Jr., open to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. This inclusive, multi-age structure allows younger performers to be mentored and inspired by older students, while advanced performers develop leadership skills both on and off the stage. The result is a collaborative, supportive environment that reflects our mission of making high-quality performing arts education accessible, enriching, and empowering for every student.

Students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade will help to form part of the orphan ensemble, bringing energy and heart to the production. They will learn choreography to iconic numbers such as “Hard Knock Life” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile,” while developing foundational stage skills like projection, stage presence, and teamwork. Their camp experience also includes themed crafts connected directly to the show, some of which will be incorporated into the final performances, giving them a tangible sense of ownership in the storytelling process. Through engaging theater games, they will learn basic theater terminology and concepts in a hands-on, age-appropriate way — all building toward the excitement of performance week.

For students in 3rd grade through 12th grade, the program begins with a comprehensive audition experience on day one. Campers will rotate through learning audition materials directly from Annie Jr., including vocal selections, acting sides, and a short dance combination. Our instructors guide students step-by-step through the audition process, helping them understand what to expect while creating a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. Whether it’s a student’s first audition or they are seasoned performers, the experience is designed to challenge and empower them. The entire first day is dedicated to auditions, and cast lists are carefully determined and sent to families that evening.

From there, the real magic begins. Each rehearsal day is thoughtfully structured to balance skill-building with focused production work. Students participate in ensemble-building theater games, learn and refine choreography, rehearse musical numbers, explore character development, and block each scene of the show. They experience the complete journey of mounting a musical, gaining a deep appreciation for the collaboration and commitment that live theater requires.

For those who feel most inspired behind the scenes, we proudly offer a Tech-Only option. Technical theater students will be responsible for working on creating props, designing scenic elements, basic costuming, stage management, how to run lights, sound design, and backstage crew operations. They work alongside the cast throughout the rehearsal process and are essential to the success of the final production. While all students will contribute to elements of technical design, this option provides a non-audition pathway for students who prefer to focus fully on backstage production and design.

At the conclusion of the intensive, students will showcase their hard work with two evening performances on June 19th and June 20th at 7:00pm. These performances are the culmination of ten days of dedication, creativity, and teamwork. Tickets will be limited, so families are encouraged to secure their seats as soon as the ticket link goes live at the start of camp.

This intensive is intentionally designed to challenge, inspire, and celebrate each student’s individual strengths. Whether stepping into the spotlight or ensuring the show runs seamlessly from backstage, every participant plays a meaningful role in creating something extraordinary in just two short weeks.

Join us this summer as we sing, dance, collaborate, and bring the Musical Theater classic, Annie Jr to life!
